Check you are ready before you book
Three questions give a rough answer: the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level you need, a recent practice level for the weakest skill, and the weeks left before test day.
Book, then practise hard
One level to go with 4 weeks left: book a date, then put most of your practice into your weakest skill.
A rough guide from your own practice results. Practice estimates are not official scores.
If you have no practice level yet, start with our free mock test: listening and reading are marked the moment you finish. Our listening score chart then turns correct answers into a level range.
If the check suggests practising longer first, the gap is large for the time left. Narrow it with focused work on your weakest skill, then rerun the check.
CELPIP test booking in 5 steps
CELPIP exam booking is done online, in five steps. Have these ready:
- Your ID, to copy your name from it exactly.
- A deadline for results, if an application sets one.
- Which version you need, if an application names one.
- Two or three possible dates, in case a first choice is taken.
- A way to pay.
- 1
Create an account on CELPIP’s official website
Registration starts with an account on CELPIP’s official website. Enter your name exactly as it appears on the ID you will bring on test day, letter for letter.
- 2
Choose CELPIP-General or CELPIP-General LS
CELPIP-General covers listening, reading, writing and speaking. CELPIP-General LS covers only listening and speaking. If you are unsure which one an application asks for, read CELPIP-General or General LS: which one you need.
- 3
Choose a test centre and a date
Pick a centre that is easy to reach and a date that leaves room for results before your deadline. If the nearest centre has nothing suitable, look at others nearby.
- 4
Pay the fee
Note today’s fee, then read rescheduling and cancellation rules before paying, so a change of plans holds no surprises. Our CELPIP test fee guide explains what one sitting covers.
- 5
Prepare for test day
Save your booking confirmation. Read official test-day rules, then sit one full timed mock. Our CELPIP test format guide shows every section with its timer.
When confirmation of your appointment arrives, check that it shows:
- Name, spelled as on the ID
- Which version you booked
- Centre address
- Date and start time
If anything is wrong, contact Paragon Testing Enterprises straight away rather than on test day.
Booking rules at a glance
Rules on rescheduling, cancelling, refunds and test-day ID come from Paragon Testing Enterprises and can change, so confirm them on CELPIP’s official website when you book.
Check the current booking rules on the official site
The test owner sets these rules and can change them. Read them on the official CELPIP website before you pay.
When to book your CELPIP test
Work backwards from your deadline: the calendar sets the latest test date, and practice sets the earliest.
- Mark the date you need results by, such as the day you plan to create an Express Entry profile or send an application.
- Subtract how long results take to arrive, as CELPIP’s official website states it, plus a few spare weeks in case you need a second sitting.
- That is the latest sensible test date. Anything earlier works, as long as you are ready.
- Also check validity: results stay valid for 2 years, so they must still be valid when an application needs them.
Plans change, so note any rescheduling deadline once you have booked. A reminder set a few days ahead of it keeps the option open if preparation slips or a family event clashes with your date.
Booking early is fine if your preparation keeps pace. If a skill is still short of target as test day nears, give your remaining weeks to that skill alone. Our guide to CELPIP test results explains what arrives after test day and how long it lasts.
We are not the official CELPIP website
CELPIP Trainer is an independent practice service, not affiliated with Paragon Testing Enterprises. Tests are booked and paid for with them, on CELPIP’s official website. We never sell tests or ask for booking details.
How to get ready for test day
Get used to timers, section order and overall length in the weeks before, then keep your last few days calm.
Rehearse at full length
Sit at least one full timed mock at the hour your real test starts. All four sections take about 2 h 40 min to 3 h.
Listen without replaying
Each recording plays once, with no way back to earlier questions, so train with recordings you never pause or restart.
Start speaking on time
Recording starts by itself when preparation ends. Rehearse with a countdown on our speaking templates page until starting at once feels normal.
Read official rules
A few days before, check on CELPIP’s official website what to bring, when to arrive and which ID is accepted.
Plan your trip
Know the route to the centre and its travel time. Allow extra minutes for traffic, parking or a late bus.
Warm up on the way
Listen to a few minutes of English radio or a podcast, then say a few sentences aloud, so English is already flowing when your first answer starts.
Rest the day before
Do a light review instead of a new full mock, eat well, sleep early. Nothing learned late at night outweighs a clear head.
